Every designer has a preference for certain materials . For example, Louis Vuitton uses canvas or MCM uses Visetos . They all have their "signature materials". To help you find your way around the mass of materials, we have listed some of the materials here for you according to the respective designers and briefly described the most important ones.

Louis Vuitton

Louis Vuitton Monogram Canvas:

The most important material at Louis Vuitton is canvas . Most bags and small leather goods are made of Monogram Canvas or Damier Canvas . Louis Vuitton canvas is made of vinyl-soaked cotton fabric , which is printed with the respective pattern. It is much more robust and durable than leather. Monogram Canvas was developed by Georges Vuitton in 1896. He originally designed it to protect himself from the competition. He used stylized flowers that were based on the trend at the time to use Japanese or oriental designs. These were based on Art Nouveau.

Louis Vuitton Damier Ebene Canvas:

The Damier Ebene canvas is the oldest pattern. Louis Vuitton designed it in 1888. The inspiration for the checkerboard pattern " Damier " is the kitchen in his property in Asniéres, where a similar tiled backsplash hung on the wall. The pattern is now available in three different colors.

Louis Vuitton Monogram Vernis Color:

The Louis Vuitton Monogram Vernis leather was developed in 1997 under the direction of the then creative director Marc Jacobs. Vernis means glossy varnish . This is a specially coated leather that is embossed with the classic monogram.

Louis Vuitton Epi Leather:

Another important material at Louis Vuitton is Epi leather . Epi leather is a pigmented smooth leather . The leather gets its special look from a special embossing . The embossing is reminiscent of the pebbled leather that Louis Vuitton used in the 1920s. The leather was developed in 1985 and was used to make the first pure leather line. The pigmentation makes the leather particularly weather-resistant and robust. Bags made from Epi leather are usually black or come in bright colors. Epi leather is considered to be particularly durable and timeless .
